Introduction critical latin american and latino studies by Juan Poblete

xi. the ethnic studies moment could then also be seen as the displacement of those narratives of white American national homogeneity by new ones that responded to a much more international imaginary (Third World anticolonialist struggles, socialist and anticapitalist movements) that stressed not American exceptionalism but the multiple connections likning its diverse ethnic polulations with "foreign" national cultures. Somewhat paradoxically, nationalist movements fueled an international imaginary.

xiii. it could also be argues that this disciplinary map was constituted by a fundamental denial of coevalness whereby the West produced knowledge about the present and the future, while the rest afforded an oportunity to know, via field trips, the past (Clifford 1986).

xxii.
“My own idea of a Latino/a Amerian world-regional imaginary and space attempts to circumscribe not ahistorical essences but grounded sociocultural processes and circuits well illustrated in their complexity by the development, for instance, of Latin(o) American television. It is then necessary to understand that those forms of narratives and identifications were , are, and will be always already be the result of cultural hybridizations between multiple, heterogeneous, and oftentimes conflicting agents further differentiated by race, class, and gender, not the expression of a single logic with homogeneous actors inscribed in a sacred and unchangeable cultural space”

“When a very high percentage of the TV programs and videos Latin Americans watch as their preferred form of entertainment is produced predominantly in the US, when so many hours of their daily life depend on such products, the distance between the real immigrant and the virtual one seems in some important respects, which include cultural consumption and everyday life forms of citizenship, less relevant than their multiple forms of connection”

“How are the national spaces and communities inhabited when the daily ceremonies are not only those the national novell and newspaper but also those of the globalized and world-regional spheres of cable and satellite TV, Internet, video, and film?”

my thinking about ethnic studies

And my thought about Le-Long Khack's writing. I think Ethnic Studies are dismantling inside the category??? they were assinged, they were put to be claimed,  knowing that this category is one of the many categories that matter, and there is no such thing as an ethnic unity. Ethnic studies started with oppositional asumptions??? agendas to the mainstream whatever. Ethnic Studies is dealing with its name itself, born out of white supremacy or euro-centered and  But if race is something historically constructed, we can also deconstruct and reconstruct other identities too.
